9th IUPAC International Conference on Green Chemistry (ICGC-9)

9th IUPAC International Conference on Green Chemistry (ICGC-9)

18 – 22 October, 2020
Zappeion Megaron
Athens
Greece

We have the pleasure to invite you to the 9th IUPAC International Conference on Green Chemistry (ICGC-9), that will take place in Athens, Greece, on 18th – 22nd October 2020.

The 9th IUPAC International Conference on Green Chemistry is organized by the Association of Greek Chemists(AGC) in collaboration with the IUPAC Interdivisional Committee on Green Chemistry for Sustainable Development (ICGCSD) and the Hellenic Green Chemistry Network. It is endorsed by IUPAC and several other organizations and associations related to Green and Sustainable Chemistry.

The main aim of the IUPAC International Conference series on Green Chemistry (ICGC) is to bring together all relevant stakeholders from academia, research, industry, NGOs, policy makers and society, to exchange and disseminate knowledge and ideas that promote the concept of green chemistry, sustainable development and circular economy. This year’s conference is the ninth of the ICGC series, the first having been organized in Germany (2006), followed by Russia (2008), Canada (2010), Brazil (2012), South Africa (2014), Italy (2016), Russia (2017) and Thailand (2018).

The ICGC-9 will cover the following general topics:

Green Chemistry in Academia, Research and Industry
Green Chemistry in Education and Society
Green Chemistry for Sustainable Development, Bioeconomy and Circular Economy
The scientific programme will deal with the global trends and developments in the field of green and sustainable chemistry, as well as with research and technology aspects of high importance to specific parts of the world. For example, the topic of biomass valorization will be discussed both with regard to agricultural as well as forestry wastes in order to be of interest to the relevant countries and regions. On the other hand, the use of non-toxic solvents, the development of low/no waste industrial chemical processes, the use of bio- and degradable plastics and the increase of societal and political awareness towards green chemistry practices, will comprise of topics with a broader audience. The contribution of Green Chemistry to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations will also be highlighted. Within this context, both novel fundamental chemistry approaches as well as dedicated industry-oriented processes will be discussed, in the different areas of chemistry and chemical engineering.

The conference programme will comprise of Plenary, Keynote, Oral and Poster presentations, and will include special workshops, e.g. on bio-polymers and plastics recycle, etc., presentation of awards and prizes, and attractive social events.

The highlights of the conference will be communicated by IUPAC via its news magazine Chemistry International, and the proceedings will be published in a Special Issue of IUPAC’s official journal, Pure and Applied Chemistry. Special Issues in high impact journals in the field of Green and Sustainable Chemistry will also be produced, with selected papers of the conference, following the standard peer-review procedures.

We look forward to welcoming you together with your colleagues and family at the ICGC-9 in Athens and have a fruitful and enjoyable conference! Apart from scientific and technical interactions, it is a great opportunity to discover the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Greece and Athens and enjoy traditional Mediterranean – Greek gastronomy and flavours.

Athens Conference on Advances in Chemistry (ACAC 2018)

Athens Conference on Advances in Chemistry (ACAC 2018)

October 30 – November 2, 2018
National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
Athens
Greece

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the scientific and organizing committees, we have the pleasure of inviting you to attend the “Athens Conference on Advances in Chemistry (acac2018)”, which will be held during October 30 to November 2, 2018 in Athens, Greece. The conference venue will be the campus of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).

This conference is the first of a series of International Conferences and is held on the occasion of the centennial anniversary of the Department of Chemistry at NKUA since its establishment in 1918.

We hope this conference to be highly active and a forum for exchange of the latest knowledge concerning chemistry and related areas among researchers from all over the world. Chemistry has expanded into many multidisciplinary research areas involving large numbers of chemists, physicists, biologists and medicinal scientists. We know that many chemists, who have studied at our Department, are now in academic or research positions all over the world. It is thus our great pleasure to welcome all of them in Athens among many excellent researchers in all areas of chemistry. We anticipate fruitful discussions on the latest topics during several plenary, keynote, and invited lectures, contributed talks, and poster presentations. In addition, there will be an Early Career Researcher evening event for young researchers. It is our intention to establish an inspiring atmosphere for exchanging innovative ideas and initiating new collaborations.

We think that Athens, one of the world’s oldest cities with its recorded history spanning over 3,400 years and its earliest human presence starting somewhere between the 11th and 7th millennium BC, together with the NKUA, the oldest University in modern Greece, is the perfect place for this event to take place.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in Athens.
